California's 1st Congressional District
The 1st Congressional District of California is located in the northeast corner of the state. It is a rural district, with its largest cities being Redding (91,794) and Chico (93,293). The three biggest industries in the district by number of employers are Educational Services, and Health Care and Social Assistance (75,735), Retail Trade (39,591) and Professional, Scientific, and Management, and Administrative and Waste Management Services (28,251) (for complete list, see here). Doug LaMalfa has represented the district since 2013.

Party Affiliation
The district has a voter index of R+11, meaning it is 11 percentage points more Republican than average for congressional districts nationally. Since district lines were redrawn in 2011, the district has leaned Republican, with both Republican presidential candidates winning by double digits in the last two elections. Mitt Romney won in 2012 with 56.6% of the vote compared to Barack Obama with 40.3% , and Donald Trump won with 56.2% of the vote compared to Hillary Clinton with 36.5% in 2016.
